Alan Rickman, better known as “Snape” from Harry Potter, died on Thursday, January 14.

Recently diagnosed with cancer, Rickman, 69, was a London Native who played the character of Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series.  He also played the part of Hans Gruber in the film, Die Hard, his first feature-length role.

Before going into film, Rickman performed onstage with the Royal Shakespeare Company and played various roles on television shows broadcasted in the United Kingdom.

J.K. Rowling tweeted a statement earlier on Thursday, saying: “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.”

Daniel Radcliffe also posted some kind words about Rickman on his Google+ account.
