Meet Andrea Shei Phan: a mixed-breed artist and model from Oklahoma, who’s moved to New York in pursuing her modeling career but started to branch off into dancing as well as painting . Andrea work has been represented by brands that have chosen to put her art on fashion merchandise like backpacks as well as sneakers. This talented contemporary artist’s work has been described as both striking and prismatic. She primarily works in a stochastic painting method where chaos meets formula. This method combines random components with a selective process so that only certain outcomes are achieved. These components include paint viscosity, gravity, movement, and the nature of the pigment. With each series the painting conditions and media are different. Her works are largely created with oil paint on canvas , however, Andrea works with ink, paper, spray paint, household paints and anything else that inspires her. There are no limits to what Andrea can accomplish with her limitless creativity. The color placement in her pieces are also a large part of the process as the same color will look completely different according to shades next to it.

Her work, no matter what medium she chooses, can only be described as nothing short of sheer genius. Andrea’s art is all about the constant strive for originality, creativity, and expression. Her paintings usually feature mixed media and an interesting slew of materials: Andrea is a transformational artist who does not fear exploration and innovation. She has been experimenting with abstract art, acrylic paint and spray paint along with a medley of unusual materials for a daring mixed media style. Andrea’s exceptional approach to art, with her interesting choice of materials and flare, is a pleasure to observe. She is an artist who does not fear change or modernism. She understands how to pay great attention to detail when it comes to creating art. The effort and time that she puts into every one of her paintings are unbelievable. She has a full mind of ideas and self-expressions like no other. She is an artist in every sense of the word. She is extremely driven and motivated in creating and using an artistic eye in all that she sets her mind to.

Although coming from a small town in Oklahoma, Shei Phan is making her mark in the big city once as a model, but now transitioning into an artist. Shei was discovered to do modeling from a local photographer in Oklahoma, having taught her the ins and outs of the modelingindustry soon after Shei was signed to a modeling agency in New York. At 21, Shei made her way to New York working with many brands, rocking the runways internationally and also tv appearances such as: Project Runway and America’s Next Top Model. Where she made it to top 5, but Shei realizes that modeling was not her soul passion and just like always falls into the arms of art.

Even though art is my true passion as a model I was able to work on beautiful projects with unbelievably creative people that have helped give my art life. Having another art form that I have enjoyed so much and living in New York has had a beautiful effect on my paintings. I paint because I want to evoke emotion from within my audience. Capture them in a way like other…give them a piece of me that is beyond what they see on the outside. Within the “Forget Me Not” I use a unicorn mask to cover my face yet I’m fully nude. They say the eyes are the window to the soul so I can give my body but they will never have my soul. I love to get lost and let my paintings write the story as I go. I believe that everyone has the potential to be great. Embrace your opportunities and never let your inner child die. Never be afraid to express who you are, no matter how you have to do it. I create because it’s what I am.” –Andrea Shei Phan

Transitioning from modeling to becoming a well-known artist Shei is starting to cast some vibrant contrast on the art community. On one side of her world, we find the charismatic pandas of the “Ying Dynasty”, while on the other side, we find Shei in a vulnerable yet still so mysterious within her self-nudes of “More than a Model” and “Forget Me Not” series. With this look inside wonderland, Shei brings a little of everything to the table with color confusion and extreme contrast.

The contemporary art world is vibrantand booming like never before and it’s a twenty-first-century phenomenon, a global industry in its own right. Contemporary artists seek the power to astonish, satisfy and challenge: the legend of Andrea Shei Phan’s artwork achieves all of these things. She showcases art that the public may not ordinarily have access to outside of a large urban environment within a welcoming, creative, and inspirational platform. She is a real artist of not only painting but of interior design, innovation, lifestyle and artistic interpretation. As time goes on Andrea will continue to delve deeper into the world of art by utilizing a wide range of mediums and taking an intimate approach to art direction and design. She will continue to build her brand and develop more designs and artwork. We will all be looking forward to seeing what she accomplishes next with her limitless style and creativity!
