Meet the fabulous founder and CEO of interior design company Sarah Lane Design: Sarah Mahlof, a wanderlust New York-based artist and polaroid photographer. Her mixed media paintings are usually on wood featuring a medley of themes like nature, peace and striking visuals of color. Sarah’s unique approach to art, with her interesting choice of materials and flare, is a pleasure to see. She is an artist who does not fear experimentation and innovation, no matter what outlet she chooses. She balances opposing forces in her artwork; to dig deeper into the meaning of being present and appreciating the moment. This is the reoccurring essence that she shows in her work. This can be thanked to the many shoes she has walked in; from being raised in a beach town in New Jersey, to living in New York, Paris and now her next adventure: Israel. While there, she will be living in a kibbutz, a self-sustaining community and working in the art field.

Ms. Mahlof has been in the construction and design industries since she was born, having started her career by working with her father and rest of her family in some of the largest construction projects in New Jersey. There, she worked to oversee the construction of luxury mega-mansions and building complexes in New York and New Jersey. She developed the name of her company from their most recent multi-family home development, Sarah Lane.

Sarah is now the CEO and President of Sarah Lane Design, with a luxurious style, catering to the high demand of New York city apartment owners and private clients for ‘in-house’ custom and specialty finishes as well as for furniture and installation restoration. She works in her own workshop in New Jersey to ensure maximum quality and project efficiency. Her team specializes in interiors of private homes, condominiums, as well as restoration of fine furniture and cabinetry. Most of their custom-built furniture is hand painted and finished. Sarah’s main style is about simple, clean and warm spaces with little touches of “DIY” (do-it-yourself) projects to personalize any space she redesigns, usually adding her own woodwork or artwork. She is taking over the design world by storm one interior at a time with her personal touch and exquisite taste.

Sarah Mahlof holds a BA in business and accounting and has been working in the field for a few years until she realized that her true passion resides in real estate, construction and interior design.  Thanks to her prior experience as a classical painter, her exquisite taste in art sets her apart from other interior designers — when the designer of a space also curates the art work on the walls, it creates beautiful harmony.

Her main passion and what she is known for is her polaroid photos. She literally does not leave the house without her polaroid camera in hand, snapping away everywhere she goes. For the most part, she keeps most of the polaroids to display in her elaborate installations. However, sometimes she decides to give the photo to the subjects as a gift.

The contemporary art world is vibrant and booming like never before and it’s a twenty-first-century phenomenon, a global industry in its own right. Contemporary artists seek the power to astonish, satisfy and challenge: Sarah Mahlof’s artwork  (of all mediums)achieves all of these things. She showcases art that the public may not ordinarily have access to outside of a large urban environment within a welcoming, creative, and inspirational platform. She is a true artist of not only painting but of innovation, lifestyle and artistic interpretation. As time goes on, Miss Mahlof will continue to reinvent herself and delve deeper into the world of art by utilizing a wide range of mediums and taking an intimate approach to art direction and design. She’ll continue to build her brand and develop more designs and artwork through interior design, photography and any other medium she chooses to showcase her view of the world. We will all be looking forward to seeing what she accomplishes next with her limitless style and creativity.
